Eco-empathy

This picture is a combination of two pictures smashed together using the Enlight app i have on my iphone.

The underlying photo is of a tulip flower display at the 2017 Philadelphia Flower Show. Actually, the flower show theme was Holland, and tulips was the display-du-jour. The color and uniformity of this flower display is what grabbed my attention in the first place.

The overlaid photo is of my nephew who had been “fishing”. What he is doing is holding a barbel (type of fish) that he caught by hand in a watering hole where the water was drying up due to the drought conditions. The photo was taken at Phinda Private Game ReserveĀ in Northern Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. I really like the display of empathy. This is emblematic of a significant number of people who work to preserve our wildlife heritage, in the face of an ever burgeoning global population.

I combined the two photos, person holding fish in centre, flowers wrapped around the outside, and I then applied a green merged wash to the whole photograph to demonstrate the green-ness of all that is portrayed by this shot.

This is the culmination of multiple threads of interest; it is not just about the photo:
